The Sam Baron X Maria collection is a tribute to the local craftsmanship of the Portuguese family business Maria Terracotta.
Maria is the name of the grandmother of the owners of the ceramic production company in the Porto de Mós region, which uses the regional natural resource of terracotta. Sam was inspired by the functional and decorative objects produced by his grandmother Maria and reworked, in a contemporary way, the details that made them unique. Friezes, curves and undulations compose the shapes of the vases, centerpieces and now several pieces of a complete tableware set celebrate the art of entertaining at the table, the meeting point par excellence for the Portuguese.
The glazes, in shades of green, beige and blue, applied to the top of the pieces embellish the clay, evoking the natural beauty of the region's landscape and paying homage to the land.
Located in the historic Livraria Férin building in Chiado, A Vida Portuguesa has brought new life to one of Lisbon’s most storied cultural spaces. Founded in 1840 by the Férin sisters as a reading office before becoming a renowned bookshop, typography, and publisher and later the Official Bookbinder of the Royal House under King D. Pedro V, this space long served as a meeting point for literary figures such as Eça de Queiroz and Fernando Pessoa.
Following the closure of the second-oldest bookshop in Lisbon at the end of 2023, A Vida Portuguesa has carefully restored and reactivated the space, preserving its architectural and historical character down to the smallest detail.
Spanning nearly 400 m², the shop is organised across two levels: the upper floor is dedicated to books, stationery, and perfumery, maintaining the literary spirit of the original bookstore, while the expansive lower level features textiles, homeware, tableware, and a remarkable grocery section. Here, visitors can discover a curated selection of traditional Portuguese products from across the country celebrating craftsmanship, heritage, and everyday culture.
A Vida Portuguesa continues its mission of reviving historic spaces while showcasing the richness and diversity of Portuguese production.
